Mr. Clean Magic Eraser works really well on ceramic stove tops. Or you could try Vim cleaner and a toothbrush.

Try mixing a paste of: baking soda and dawn dishsoap and scrub. The dawn (or dishsoap, but dawn is best) will cut the grease and the baking soda will serve as a "scrubber" that won't in anyway damage the surface. On really bad stuff as you described, I have also just taken baking soda with little water and kept the baking soda fairly dry. Still won't damage if you don't use a stainless steal scrubber, that would damage and scratch the surface. Note: baking soda is also good for appliances with the moddled surface or for lack of better term...orange peel surface.

They do sell stovetop cleaner in Bed Bath and Beyond and everywhere else, but I've found that just a damp paper towel and water do great. Recently I was told to use a moistened coffee filter since that won't leave lint. I haven't tried it yet (maybe I need to cook more) but it sounds logical!

They do sell a glass stove cook top cleaner. that is the best to use. You can use the no scratch scrubbers on the tops. My directions on my ceramic cook top stove states. That if food and spills are left and you keep cooking without cleaning that sometimes it will cause damage and pitting that can not be cleaned. These stove tops need cleaning with the cleaning product made specifically for ceramic tops after each use.It also protects and makes spills easier to clean up. I have heard but myself have not tried it. that you can use a razor blade gently to remove the cooked on food. I would try this carefully..

When I first moved out of my parent's home, it was into a little cottage (barely more than a converted shed) with the same problem. I used a lot of baking soda and hot soapy water to make the place livable. I was tired afterwards, but it worked!

The product is called "Bar Keepers Friend". It comes in a container like cleanser such as "Comet". It is gold with a blue shield on the front. Very inexpensive and works great. Cleans without the abrasiveness of the regular cleansers!!!! Have used it for years!!!!

Try making a paste of baking soda and water, spread over the stove and let dry. Then using a wet cloth scrub the crap out of it. Voila! A nice clean stove top.

Oven off, or easy off (same product different name) just spray it on and let it sit anywhere from 5 minutes to a half an hour and everything comes off! That stuff is so great!

Spray it with oven cleaner but don't get any on any aluminum trim. The glass top will not be affected by the cleaner.
