Buy a drain snake to run through the opening. It will have an end on it that will snag the rag and you should be able to pull it out. It must not have gotten very far so this should work fine. If it went far enough down the drain, it would end up in the larger pipes in the house and flush through like a turd.

Get the rag out - either with a snake, by opening the trap, or by calling a plumber. And then for Pete's sake get a smaller strainer for that drain! It is clearly too large if a whole washrag went down!

Try a plumbers snake.
What will happen is as you crank the snake it will get caught in the rag. (If your lucky) When the snake gets caught in the rag it will start to twist. Give it a little more turn (Hook it better) then pull it out. (You hope) You should be able to tell when the snake is getting caught in the rag. It may pull loose or only a small piece will come out. Keep at it.
Checked to see how far your snake is going in.
It may be in the trap & you may be able to remove the trap.
Check the ceiling under the tub.

In this particular situation I would strongly suggest going through the over flow...that would be the metal plate on the vertical face of your tub...it should be held tight by 1 or 2 screws depending on the style you have...once you remove it you will have access straight down to the trap ....you may be able to snag it with a coat hanger (twist and pull) or some other ingenous way ..done this many times in my ten years of plumbing...be patient and you can get it even without a snake...good luck..
Cheers

Do you live in an apartment, or house? If apartment, contact maintenance and have them bring a 'snake' for the drain to get it out, otherwise, go to your local hardware store and buy one and get the cloth out. And, while you are there, buy a trap that will keep cloths from getting down the drain.

Take a coathanger and bend it completely out so it makes a stick with a small hook at the end. Other than that, call a plumber.

you can rent a drain snake, it should do the trick, if you have no luck then I would call a plumber but you should be able to get this done with the snake.

you need to call the rooter man, or your local plumber to come and fix it. If you try it on your own you just may end up pushing it down further.

call a plumber because it'll be hard for a drain unclogger to get rid of it.
