september is still hurricane season. i went once during a full on hurricane ( Floyd) , theres still alot to do. the rain lightens up( most of the heavy thunder storms roll through during the late evening, with light scattered showers during the day.) and my family and i got to swim everyday. the islands also have alot more to offer besides swimming and the sun. i would look up alternative activites to try. Temperatures are slightly colder, i went to the carribean in October and February and still was able to enjoy the water rides adn pools at the resort i stayed at. Its also a cheaper time to go, if money is an issue. i would say that you need to decide for yourself but i would go. a little rain wont hurt you or your vacation.

It depends in which area in the Caribbean you are going Your most likely to see a lot of rain fall and thunder clouds as I did when I went to ANGUILLA but I also had some hot weather around that time but cooler in the evenings Hurricane's well their are something to consider but you might not be affected by one but still go I would and have a wonderful time
