all season long. Recently a male Ruby throated hummingbird has started coming...and she dive bombs him every time he comes around. I have heard that the males are territorial...but are the females also?

Couch: Yes, I'm sure it is a female divebombing the male.

Gail: Yes, when she attacks, I hear them squeaking.

Yes, I believe they are. My feeder has been the location for "hummingbird battlezone" all summer. I have enjoyed their antics and dive bombs and have occasionally been caught in the middle of their dives! I believe it is only natural for either sex to protect their food supply. However, I have about six that are using my feeder and all of them feed at some point during the day and yes I can tell most of them apart because of size and slight color variations. MIne also chatter at each other. Have you heard them do this? Enjoy the rest of the summer!

Most female hummingbirds don't have the bright colors like the males do. Are you sure you don't have two males?
I have noticed recently that the Ruby throated males at our two feeders dive bomb the other hummers forcing them to leave the feeders without eating. I think the Ruby throated ones are more territorial than the others.
We have some beautiful emerald green hummers that allow everyone to eat at both feeders.
You might do what I did yesterday, I hung out two more feeders on the opposite side of the house that way all the birds could eat. So far it is working.

No, the style of the container could haven't any referring to attracting humming Birds. I actually have heard that the trumpet formed flora attraction to them yet I actually have effortless bottle, fancy feeder and my little birds choose the most least confusing of feeder. They do like red. The humming birds listen in North MS about 10 all day lengthy in the present day. I had a posh feeder they would not drink out of so I positioned a circle of red felt on the top and now they flock to that ingredient. Oh, do not upload nutrition coloring for your nutrition, it truly is undesirable for them and a waste of time. lots of feeders too.
