He probably like animals. I wonder if he let them breed? Are they the same 126 year after year? If ever a deer die during the trip, is he able to continue to give his gift to children. Of course, at the end of his trip, his sleigh is less heavy so he does not need all of those. If he like to show off, nobody seemed to have seen him really...

I think he can fly but after a while he got out of shape (not belly) so now he does need the reindeer

Of course Santa needs them to do all of his dirty work. They are cheap labor.

He definitely needs them. They help eat all the cookies. And, he has a really outdated navigational system so he needs their sense of direction.
