Batman is one of the few superheros that does not have superpowers. He made the decision to help save people and despite not having powers is still able to. I mean if you were born with superpowers it is almost like a requirement that you either become a superhero or villain.
Superman is great and all, but other then his weakness for the meteor rocks he was basically invincible. With Batman, people can relate to him better. He was just an ordinary man(other then being a billionaire) who wanted to protect those that cannot protect themselves.

I have to say Batman is better then Superman because unlike the ultra-common superhero with superpowers Batman has none. He is just another normal human being that wasn't drooped in any kind of chemical reaction in resulting in his powers or came from another planet. Batman shows in his TV reality world that you don't have to be a super hero to make a difference in the world or in at least a city most of the time. In his world it shows that humans can make a big difference if they have the right tools at their hands and are able to use them as well as stay fit. He uses his intelligence to make his "toys and rides" He relys on things that seem very human capable other then the superhero with super powers alternate alien language and technology that only they would understand or so. I believe also Batman has a better plot line I believe and he has usually rated higher then superman has and so has his movies in the market. None of the batman comics, movies,TV shows and cartoons no matter the small or wide differences from each other have ever fallen really where you will find many people pretty easily down-talking a variety of different superman shows and movies.

I've always found Batman to be the more interesting character. I like superman, dont get me wrong, but there is something about Batman thats always spoken to me.
His modivation for what he does is human and understandable. We all understand loss, and we know what it feels like to rail against fate and forces we have no controll over.
Bruce Wayne does his best to take controll of what can't be controlled. He tries to turn his tragedy into something that makes the world into a better place.
He gains his skills through dedication and hard work, using his vast wealth to make the world better, and has many human flaws in his character.
I think he;s easier to relate to and I think he has a human element that Supes is missing.
And while Superman is stronger/faster/and industructable, he doesnt really earn these things. He;s a superhero by the grace of fate. Batman works for what he is.
And if you look at the Dark Knight Returns, he did hold his own against Supes in a majpr fight. Granted, with the sun being blocked and Green Arrow shooting him with Kryptonite, he was far weakened. But this made him physicly even with Batman (Who was in his 40's or 50's in this story) and Batman beet him within an inch of his life.
I also think tho, that comparing to two is flawed seeing as they are very diffrent kinds of heros.
Superman is more the "Magic" or "Godlike" sort, in the same area as hercules. His powers are fantastical.
Batman is more a pulp detective in the same tradition as The Shadow, Dick Tracy, or The Green Hornet.

Batman is a character that it easier to relate to. His greatest ability is the iron will he posses. Batman is the creation of Bruce Wayne, who lost both of his parents at the same time, when they all were returning home from a movie. The trama of the incident left Bruce with a never ending need to defend and protect others. As a result, he honed every aspect of himself to a razor's edge; physically, he is the master of many fighting arts and an acrobat, he is the world's greatest dectective whose power of observation would make Holmes' proud and yes, he has a lot of gadgets but most of them he helped to create. It's one thing to have aids and tools, it's another thing entirely to have a hand in the design and manufacture of them.

batman is a better character all around. his comics are better, his cartoon is better, his movie is better. And to top that all of, he could beat superman in a fight. The fight would be over before it began, because Bats carrys a kryptointe ring on him just in case. He would not let supes close enough to actually hit him (cause that would kill him). He would have find a way to win before they even stared to fight

Gotta admit Kristin, what you're doing is comparing apples to oranges. Bats has the street smarts, plus a bazillion bucks at his disposal, While Supes has the powers and his Kansas-bred morality. The two of them may not be the best of friends, but IMHO they complement each other. Out of conflict, I have to give the vote for Supes, although I must say that neither of them are better than another. They just go about things in different ways.

Batman was a human and was only able to do what his gadgets would allow him to do, but superman was from Krypton and he could do anything that he wanted to do, but he never betrayed us, so my answer is Superman.
