First of all, you didn't mention if it is new and under warranty. If so then you need to contact the car dealer and have them fix it and provide you with a loaner vehicle while this is happening. If you bought it from an individual then you can contact them and try to get your money back. Depending on where you live it might be covered under the lemon law which makes it illegal to sell a vehicle that has major mechanical problems. Any and all problems with the vehicle should have been disclosed at the time of purchase. If your area does not have a Lemon Law on the books then your only real option will be small claims court to try to recoup your money. Sorry.

I'm not sure a BMW will break down that quickly. I guess the first question to ask is: How old is the car? If its pretty old, maybe its just wearing out. If its relatively new, might have got yourself a lemon (which was prob'ly why the previous ownerditched it.) Suggest you either call up the guy and threaten to report to the cops or go get yourself a very reputable mechanic cuz boy, their repairs dont come cheap.

Call the person you bought it from and give them a opportunity to make good. If they do not then call your local DMV and ask about lemon laws.
If you paid a lot for this car then you may want to call an attorney before you do any thing else.
Do not wait very long deciding on what to do or you may find your self out of luck.

New or used. If you bought used normally there is no warranty. You would be responsible for any repairs. If it is under warranty you have to call the dealer to repair it. There is no lemon law on used vehicles, that I know of!

Take it back to the person/delaer you got it from. Is it under warranty?

Get your money back, and never look at another station wagon as long as you live.
