Maybe because the truth doesn't sound too interesting sometimes...Lots of people want to seem like having a big reason to get something and probably think their own reason wouldn't be enough...

Some people just can't control themselves when it comes to lying. They feel the need to make everyone believe them no matter what or whom they hurt in the process.
