Light as a feather, stiff as a board

Light as a feather, stiff as a board, sometimes known as party levitation, is a game often played by children at slumber parties. One participant lies flat on the floor, and then the others space themselves around the lying person, placing a few fingers each underneath him. The lifters begin chanting "light as a feather, stiff as a board" and eventually begin to lift the lying one, using what feels like surprisingly little effort.

In one variation the person being lifted is told a story about their death and asked to imagine it happening to him/her. It serves the dual purpose of "freaking out" the participants and convinces the participants that it will be easier to lift this person.

Pseudoscientist Richard LeFors Clark has proposed that this feat is made possible by magnetic levitation and that the ease of lifting varies with orientation to Earth's magnetic field. This is not credited by the scientific community.

In an episode of South Park, Marjorine (episode 909), the game was played at a girl's slumber party. After seeing the girls chanting and easily lifting their friend, Butters, who is disguised as a girl, calls them all witches.
