As the other person answered, mums (chrysanthemums) are great. As the flowers turn brown keep dead-heading or pinching them off.
Pansies are also nice in your area and do well in the cooler weather.
Basically, if Home Depot or Lowe's is getting it in-stock, then its probably good to plant.
If you want to add to you landscape this is a great time to plant new bushes and trees. You can also usually find them half-off at local nurseries. Take advantage of it!

Bulbs- Iris, tulips, crocus, daffodils...
