DVD Recorder:make compatible function?

I have a Citezen C801DVR dvd recorder, after recording, one of functions called "make compatible" ,do you this function for what? in what situation I must use this function? Your help would be great appreciated.

I have the same option on my DVD recorder, it says that the option finalize the disk in order to make the dvd compatible (or more compatible !!) with other dvd players. Hope that help

You have to "Finalize" a DVD disc or you can not play it on anything other than the machine it was recorded on.
