,look for a little water dripping from the shaft of it ,their is a weep hole on most pumps to let you know early its time to change it, a constant low level grind or roar from the area, almost like that you could hear if the alt, was about to go, over heating may or may not happen before it dies,but the leaking water at the shaft is almost always the first sign, good luck.

The water pump i think is area of the cooling equipment. If the water pump become undesirable then your temperature gauge ought to have a larger than familiar examining. i'm no longer a mechanic or some thing yet my astounding wager must be that is a few thing except the water pump happening with your automobile. good success!

Oh boy two things you can tell if the water pump is bad. Weird rattle noise from the front of the engine you can hardly see. And the best way of knowing water pump is bad coolant leaking out of the pump

Usually the first sign is a loss of coolant from the tell tell hole on the bottom of the pump... you may also be able the feel looseness in the pump bearing...
