In the UK, is it expensive ?
As regards mooring fees, insurance etc.
Are there ways around it? ie moving about.
What advice?
I know expensive is relative.......compared to living in a house say>>>>

Now we talking fun! I have always wanted to live on a boat and have had the opportunity to do so for about 2 months. I live in the USA so not sure about mooring charges in UK. But, depending on your access to rivers you may find a Farmer with land along a river and work a deal for a cheap place to moor your boat. Here the prices can have a large range. Our 65 foot (About 20 meters +/-?) boat cost $600 USD to dock now. We will move it closer to home and found a dock for $300 USD (Monthly). Half price!!! Electricity and water furnished. We pay Phone and Cable (TV/Internet) if we want. The thing to living on a boat is space. You need a place for everything and if something not fit you learn to do without. Heating and Cooling is not hard due to the small space. Most of the people around are in a good mood. Many have pets; Cats, Dogs even Birds and small aquariums. Due to the space it can seem small but if you an outdoor type person you will manage well in this environment. Depending on the area you may have moisture problems if you not heat and cool. I feel it much cheaper than living in a house and much more fun. Hope this helps wish I knew more on your mooring costs.

It is generally cheaper than a house however there are limitations and permits and boat and sea smells. It is a great life however you should try it first. A rental perhaps say a month would be enough.
Then you choose if at a dock or moored out. Mooring is cheaper but more rocky, need a great mooring for security (you don't want it floating away from a stiff breeze), at least one dingy or way to get aboard, running lites, horn , and motor to move about. The dock version, depending on local laws may not require self propelled mobility but the doock fees add up. On shore you can park your car nearby so it is very convenient.
..I recommend it as it is great fun and unique. Neighbours are great as well.

Wow I wish I could live on a boat sounds great! As regards to costs I know that to stay in a Marina overnight it is not that expensive but if you block book say weeks at a time it is always cheaper. You do need contents insurance etc and that is more costly than normal because of the higher risk involved.

its kicks in the states,, cost about half of renting a house (maintenance etc) but if you too big you gonna have to moor at the end of the dock and that's a long walk with 2 bags of groceries in the rain lol

It cheaper than u might expect- alot cheaper than living in house. what my friend did was buy an ex-german mine sweeper and renovated it. has the floor space of about 3 houses, though neighbours arn't to pleased... anyway got carried away in story.
