go the HD's manufacturer site
look in the downloads for an ISO (CD image)
burn it on a CD (...)
install the HD in a PC start the PC with the CD and make a scan
can take some time, though (up to an hour / 100GB)

put the disk in a computer and get it up and running. Then run the program disk defragmenter by going to Start->Programs->Accessories->System Tools and then click on Disk Defragmenter

simple and best boot from windows 98 cd or floppy and format in dos type format c:/s while formating if hard drive has bad sector, message display recovering from 1458695 bytes e.g takes long time to format. after formating u can use as secondary drive.
