Most people make other people upset to make themselves seem better than the other person. That is the only way they can feel superior.

In most of the cases that I have saw it was simply cause they are not happy with their own life. It's like if I can't be happy then your not going to be happy either.
My ex was that way all the time. He could not stand for me to be happy so he would do everything under the sun to try to make me unhappy.

cos they have low self-esteem, insecure, selfish as well as sadist. They want the best for themselves. So in order to boost their ego, they will try to mock at others to show their high and mighty egoes.
