OK every time there is an argument about creationism vs evolution someone always has to bring up "But Darwin recanted on his death bed proving that evolution is wrong"...Now From history this is a false statement since Darwin's daughter said Darwin never recanted evolution and she was AT THE DEATHBED. So why do people still say Darwin recanted when plain as day he did not?

"Shortly after Darwin's death, temperance campaigner and evangelist Lady Elizabeth Hope claimed she visited Darwin at his deathbed, and witnessed the renunciation. Her story was printed in a Boston newspaper and subsequently spread. Lady Hope's story was refuted by Darwin's daughter Henrietta who stated, "I was present at his deathbed ... He never recanted any of his scientific views, either then or earlier."

It's character assassination, plain and simple.
The funny thing is that they think it matters - that if they can lie and say 'Darwin was a Christian and didn't believe in evolution', it will suddenly mean that evolution doesn't exist.
Religions are intimately connected with their creators. There is no Islam without Muhammad and no Christianity without Jesus. They can't grasp that science does not work that way.
As another person once said here on Y!A, if Newton had recanted on his deathbed, apples would still fall to the ground...

You misrepresent the creationist place. right here quote is from the creationists internet site; "‘Darwin recanted on his deathbed’. a lot of human beings use this tale, initially from a woman wish. even nevertheless, that's basically approximately not at all genuine, and there is not any corroboration from people who have been closest to him, even from Darwin’s spouse Emma, who not at all enjoyed evolutionary techniques. additionally, whether genuine, so what? If a renowned creationist recanted introduction, could that disprove it? there is not any fee to this argument in spite of. "

If you can't fight the message, fight the messanger.
Even if he had recanted, that doesn't change the truth
or falseness of his theory. There has been more work done
after his theory by people other than him, both to prove it
and disprove it. The theory holds on its own without his
blessing.
It really doesn't matter what he said or did. It doesn't even
matter that Darwin did it vs. we came upon the theory
written in tablets on the top of a mountain. Science works
with the theory, not the dude who created it.

Because Christians are so desperate to try to 'prove' their narrowminded beliefs that they grasp anything they can think of to feel good about being so easily fooled.
I have heard all this nonsense for so many years:... Einstein said he believed in God just before he died... so did Carl Sagan and Darwin was preaching creationism in the local Anglican Church and asking God's forgiveness. None of which is true... but then is the ignorant insistance that EVOLUTION is still a THEORY... which it hasn't been in over 100 YEARS.
You have to realize that Christians are easily fooled and most of them lack the education to express doubt at the nonsense the claim to believe in.

I don't see why this is even an issue. The man Darwin is not the issue, it is the theory itself. That is what is under discussion regarding evolution. Even if Darwinsaid he no longer believed the theory, that is now just one more person stating an opinion, and does not detract from the logic of the theory itself.

Creatinists, IDiots, and the christofacist fundies have seen how many have been "converted" by the repeated statements of the believers. They Believe 100% in the saying "repeat something enough and people will start to believe it as the truth" and " if lies are repeated enough and spread by enough people than most will begin to believe it is the truth".

There are defects in his theory and these defects are taught at univerities along with the theory. His theory was based on his scientific observations and he no more recanted than Galileo did.

I think it's simply because so many Christians, especially the fundamentalists, believe everything they are told by their religious leaders without feeling the need to do any research themselves to see if it's actually true. They trust in them blindly, though they forget how many times their leaders have been proven foolish and sometimes criminal. Reminds me of lemmings...

I'm a Christian and don't agree with anything to do with evolution but admit that is a false rumor.I can only hope for his own sake that he at least prayed to receive Jesus on his deathbed
