Alienware is the best right now. with their ALX systems the blow even the top of the line XPS dell systems out of the water. even their non-top-of-the-line laptops are better. the aurora m7700 runs off of AMD desktops processors(which gives you INSANELY more power than laptop processors. you can put athlon x2's or even an FX-60 if you have that much dough), has the capacity for 2 cd/dvd drives, has and integrated web cam and is probably the only laptop out there right now with an antiquated serial port. the aurora m7900 is an sli laptop, which i dont believe dell offers yet, which gives you the power of 2 gpu's in one machine along with superior cpu's and addons. they have the capacity for much larger hard drives including 500gb adn 750gb ones with SATA and RAID support. they set everythign up for you and can almost guarentee that it will NEVER break. also, alienware, unlike dell, leaves the overclocking options open on their laptops so (even though it is so unadvisable it isnt even funny) if you wanted to overclock your CPU or GPU your can do it, unlike on the dell XPS systems. also, alienware laptops just plain look cooler than dell's but that really doest matter to much...
Hope this helps!

According to the PC Magazine Sept 2005 Survey involving their readers, Alienware desktop has a score of 8.7 for reliability (58 responses), while Dell has a score of 8.2 (5752 responses). Unfortunately, Alienware does not have the results for laptop while Dell has a score of 8.2 for the reliability of their laptops (2753 responses). And the results are based on last year.
For now, I don't have any statistics to show which is better and Alienware products are not easily obtainable in Singapore. Personal opinion is that Alienware ones will be better though more expensive because they are produced in smaller numbers and the company products are generally of good quality. Dell may be close behind but I can't be very sure though I can safety say Fujitsu and IBM laptops are top notch.

Does a Dell and Alienware have vast price differences and a straight comparison is hard. Top of the Line Alienware may be better than the top of the line Dell, but if you take one PC from each company with the exact same specs and performance, is there any doubt that the Dell will be cheaper? I think your question has a fundemental flaw, in that you are leaving out the" Value" element.

I would say Alienware will have better performance since they focus on high-end systems. As a side note Dell now owns Alienware so they may start sharing hardware.

The two are both very good for what they were designed for. What you have to decide is what you want to do with the computer. Check out what market each is designed to sell in. You will see that there is a lot of difference in the customer they are looking for. Personally I have an Acer with two Pentium 4s running and very good supporting hardware. You also have to note that Dell makes different computer configurations for different uses. It is your choice as we don't know what you want to do with the machine.

Alienware will have the best by far, you can get them custom built to your specs, with top end parts.
Dell just use generic parts, made by the cheapest manufacture they can find, why do you think they are so cheap
