If you already have music on your computer in mp3 format or mp4 (iTunes) format then it will work on your iPod. If you own CD's, you can also rip those onto your computer (through iTunes) and add those for free onto your iPod. But if you want new songs, you can use iTunes and download them for $.99, you can also downloads some videos for $1.99, and get full albums usually for $9.99 - less if they have fewer songs, and sometimes more if they are very popular and have more songs.

if you have the files already on your computer you can put almost anything on your ipod, but itunes costs normally .99 for a song, and the price for a full album will differ due to popularity.
