"That's George Washington, the first president, of course. The interesting thing about him is that I read three -- three or four books about him last year. Isn't that interesting?" --George W. Bush, while showing German newspaper reporter Kai Diekmann the Oval Office, Washington, D.C., May 5, 2006
The last two times I posted something about Laura Bush, being a librarian and all, might find it hard to live with a man so anti-intellectual and dim-witted as GWB I was called a “cold hearted moron” and “chit”. Nice creative spelling to get around the Yahoo dirty spell check I may steal that. But I’m back for more.
Oh for the person who said he doesn’t have time-- He has time to fish, to ride his bike, to cut brush, he could make time to read if it was important.

I find it fascinating that the most interesting fact Bush was able to dredge up from these books was that he had read them, and nothing at all about Washington.

The disturbing thing for him and his family is that he is such a public, pathological liar and he doesn't seem even to mind his lies being quoted.

Even more disturbing than that, however, is the absolute egotism and arrogance of so many of his statements. E.g., the MOST interesting thing about George Washington is that George Bush [claims to have] read three--or maybe even four--books about him last year.

But, then, Mick H is right: the very most disturbing thing of all is "that he is still voted in . . . a sad reflection of the political/intellectual level of the country as a whole." And that he is still defended, even shielded from investigation, by a majority of Congress and upheld by at least four of the nine justices on the Supreme Court, one short of a permanent majority. God help us all, indeed!

Now, that's George Bush! The most important thing about him is that I read, oh I don't know, at least eight or ten books last year documenting his dishonesty, incompetence, ignorance, and psychological imbalance.

But they don't seem to have any effect on his faithful followers -- or the mainstream news media. Now that may be the most disturbing thing of all!

George II [Boy George] is being used by his Machiavellian handlers to change our "republic" into an imperialistic oligarchy, and the MSM don't even care. They keep letting Karl Rove dictate their spin!!

At least from this book person's point of view.

Whoever said a little knowledge is a dangerous thing was obviously thinking of Georgey boy, a very dangerous creature indeed. The fact that his gaffs are so numerous is more disturbing, it shows he isn't capable of learning from his mistakes, or just incapable of learning full stop, even with all of his advisors and the resources at his disposal. The fact that he is still voted in is a sad reflection of the political/intellectual level of the country as a whole - and that is if anything more disturbing still. God help America! God help the world!

Your original question said that one had to name three books the President has read, well now we have several books about Washington and one about Acheson (see below).

As for your comment about George Bush putting his foot in his mouth, I can't tell from what you wrote. He could have been joking for all I know.

During one of the first Republican Debates Bush was asked the question what do you read. Here's his answer.

GOV. BUSH: Well, I read books all the time.

I'm reading a book on Dean Acheson right now. I like to read mysteries, I like to read novels.

But look, here's the test of a leader.
