If it's published try walking into your local bookstores and see if they want to put it on their shelves. You can even get a website started that advertises your book and allows people to purchase it.

do some research. find some books that are similar to the one you have written, and make note of who published it. Then find out who the cheif editor of that genre is by going to the companies website. If no names and contact information is provided, simply call the number that is provided on the site and ask who is the editor of child abuse books. Whoever you contact, you need to find out the submission guidlines--format of mauscript, rules for submissions, etc...ALWAYS do what the publisher/editor tells you to do.
To illustrate my advice: lets say I am a writer of fantasy. I know that most of the books I write are similar to those published by Tor, Luna, or Baen. I go online and find those websites. Tor is not accepting unsolicted manuscripts, so I scratch that off. Luna has submission guidlines but no contact info. SO i call the general information line and as who the cheif editor of such-and-such is and make note of that, and send out a query letter to that person, following submission rules. Baen has full contact information PLUS submission guidelines. I follow thier instructions and send it to the person on the list.
Hope this makes sense to you.
and the first step is NOT a literary agent: Get an agent only AFTER you make a sell. Read some books on writing an publishing and marketing--all those books say that agents are for established, selling authors, not newbies.

There is a book called The Writer's Market which is published yearly and can be found in the writing and reference section of your bookstore. It contains advice on finding an agent, finding a publisher independently, marketing your work, writing a querry letter, and more. This is the first and best place to start.

Try and get it Published, start advertising it, and then try and sell it on eBay, it would help if you got family members to read it and include a book review and then use that to sell it...maybe Amazon.com will also help
