What would you think about any other person who did drugs constantly, tripping on LSD every day while his small child was roaming about the house, cheating on his mother, then abandoning them both in the most cold hearted fashion not seeing or even talking to his growing son for months, then years at a time?
I love his music as much as any fan, but you have to admit, he was a callous and heartless jerk.

I don't think good music can cancel bad parenting out, but Julian Lennon is really the one to answer this question. I had a terrible father as well and much resentment toward him. I try to understand his life before I came along and what made him the way he was. Through that process I can forgive him, unfortunately he's no longer alive to know that. I would imagine that Julian goes through the same process - wondering what could have been if his dad wasn't a part of the Beatles. I think Cynthia is rightfully bitter for how much love John had for Yoko and Sean and how much grief he caused her and Julian. I think people can change and believe that John was much more mature and aware at the point he was killed. I always say, when you are out saving the world, remember to save yourself first.

Well He's Rock Star In The 70's.Almost Everyone Did Drugs In The 70's.I Dont KNow If All That IS True BUt What I Do Know IS That Isnt The Way He Treated His Son.He Was Very Involved With Sean. And I Believe None Of These Are The Reasons He Was Shot.He Was Shot Because Mark David Chapman Was A Lunatic And Deserves To Be In Prison And Even If He Did Get Out (Which Will Never Happen) He Will Be Dead As Soon As He Gets Out Of The Gate.

I never like John Lennon even as a Beatle. He always had a way about him that made me not like him. People that have affairs are sorry people any way so what he did to his first wife and child was bad because she was there for him in the beginning and now she and her son are suffering while Yoko and her son are living the good life and didn't contribute anything to his start. His music after the Beatles was horrible.

If we tie the music to the artist, we would have very little music to which to listen. Most music artists are nut cases. Elvis was addicted to all sorts of drugs, Elton John is married to a guy, and the list goes on and on. Take the music for its face value, but be aware that you are supporting the life style of the artist when you buy their material.

First of all, the Lennon and the Beatles were not so awesome musically speaking. Even if they were, what makes up for that kind of behavior?

Didn't he sing about "instant Karma"? For his concentrating about "imagine"-ing his "world", he got his "karma" when he got shot.
I'm not condoning the act of Mark David Chapman, but it is ironic that Lennon's singing about this "perfect world where everybody can live as one", while ignoring his responsibilities of fatherhood.
He should have been writing songs about experiencing things with his kids, rather than tripping all the time.

p.s.
"Imagine you're a father
it's easy if you try
someone to care for
a little girl or boy
Imagine all us fathers
playing with our kids".........

top of my head spoof.

He was not a horrible husband. him and his wife were deeply in love and working together for a better world. he was not born to be a neither a husband nor a parent. he was born to change the world and take it out of its misary through music. Music does not make up for his "bad acts" but we cannot denie how important his music was. i beleive that without being a jerk he couldnt write his music.
