The fruit flies that you see in your kitchen did not necessarily come from outside. When you purchase fruit and vegetables from the market or grocery, the larva are already on the item.

When you bring these items home, the larva then hatch. To stop this process, you need to refrigerate these items asap.

Onions and potatoes are the two that most people leave in a cool dry container. They also need to be refrigerated.

Also you need to remove the peelings and scraps asap, as if you leave them in your garbage or trash, you get the same effect .

In the winter, you can leave items out longer and not be bothered by these flies.

This is going to be tough unless you close up your house to the outside air.
Clean the fruit the second you get it in your house. That will help a lot. Fruit flies will lay their eggs on fruit and when it's in your house the eggs will hatch.Cleaning it immediately will help avoid these problems.

You have something that's rotten in your kitchen, look for maybe an old potato or something behind your fridge. I would also suggest bleach down the drain. When you find your culprit, make sure you put bleach on the area.

If you find out let me know. They tend to congregate around fresh fruit, bread, plants, and sink traps. Make sure your sink trap is clean, don't put plants in the kitchen, Keep your bread covered, and put your fruit in the fridge or a cupboard. Maybe this will help.
