I think it's a wonderful film. I grew up watching the great old Universal horror classics of the 30s and 40s, and I always thought that Brooks spoofed them brilliantly in "Young Frankenstein." This was one of his earliest forays into genre-based comedy (many, MANY more were to follow), and his approach still seemed fresh at the time. Terrific cast of comic actors: Gene Wilder, Marty Feldman, Terri Garr, Madeline Kahn, Peter Boyle, Kenneth Mars...etc.

Mel Brooks found a way to put humor in a horror story. Most of the material came from 'The Bride of Frankenstein" - 1935.
The only objection I had was the rape scene with the monster & Madeline Khan's character - it only reinforced the fallacy that "all women really want it whether they say so or not; and, when they get it, by force or other means, they can't get enough". (I'm a guy, btw).
Frau Bluecher's character was taken from "TBoF"; she was the screaming wife of a townsman.
The lady who played her was also the innkeeper's wife in "The Invisible Man" starring Claude Rains.

Yes, it's a great film and very funny. Plus Gene Wilder is just a little bit sexy in it, I used to have a bit of a crush on him when I was younger.

loved it.....especially whenever the horse in the background whinnied at the mention of Frau Bluker's name and Cloris Leachman would get that look in her eye.
