Errrrmmmmmm, probably download a windows media player 10 installation, then install over 11, then if that works, do it backwards to 9. I dont think theres a way of fully getting the whole WMP off for good. If you wanna use summin else, probably right click on an mp3 file, click on properties. Next to the program, click change then double click on the other media player. Or you could look in the other media player's options (or preferences) area and see if theres something to do with shell extensions, associating with files, windows integration etc.

Not sure which Windows you are running, but if you go to your control panel, on the left side should be a selection that says add/remove windows applications. Another window should pop up and you should be able to find Windows Media Player there and uninstall it that way.

If you downloaded the new media 11 player, then you will have to `click start`, click on `control panel`, click on `add or remove`,
click the box `show updates`, click on `Windows XP - software update` find windows media player 11 and delete it :-)
This will also work for windows media player 10 :-)
But, why remove it?

Go into 'My Computer' and sort through your folders until you find where Windows Media Player is installed. (usually C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player). Delete the folder if you can't find an uninstall icon.

i guess windows media player is setup as your default player tht is why it is bugging u ...do this open my documents-click tools - folder option -file types- select the movie files format ( for eg-.mpg ,mpeg ,dat avi etc) and associate it with the required programme sucha as divX etc.
otherwise u cannot uninstall the windows media player because it is a built in software tht comes with windows.

I think you can't uninstall WMP, think it's a regular part of Windows... Someone told me that recently, but I'm not sure...
