Yes, one team will win the championship and 31 go home losers.
But seriously,
I can't see it making much money though for them. It may end up being like the summer olympics in Montreal (they just finally paid off the debt 30 years later). Hopefully the venues won't cost too much to construct or rebuild to have them be suitable enough for FIFA's requirements. Hopefully it will give the rest of Africa some respect in the globally sports community knowing that the can host such an important event as this or the Olympics. I honestly think they should have tried hosting the women's world cup first to see if it would work out logistically for them. Atleast the World Cup is only a soccer event as opposed to the Olympics which would involve building a variety of facilities for various events and housing for the athletes, may be this could be their dry run for the Olympics someday, I thought they had bid on them in the past and this might be enough to get them over the top in the delegates minds to have them host the Olympics.

The heat is going to be murderous. The players suffered in Germany from the heat this summer, wait until they get to Africa! I think one of the South American countries will win it, Brazil or Argentina, the heat will suit them.
Alex Ferguson said if they get the security and the stadiums sorted out, it should be a good World Cup. I don't know about this. It could be a mess.
And what about match times? I hope it won't be like Japan 2002 with matches on tv at 7 in the morning!

it would depend on what everyone's expectations are. It seems many people do think it will be good to have world cup in south africa. So with this question you can mean, will it do bad, following expections, or will it do well, since you put up in there.

No. There is already a massive fight over who is in charge. The stadiums are behind schedule. The transport system sucks. Crime is out of control. People will have to hire armed bodyguards to get around!!
