I dun noe abt Fabio Cannavaro. hmmm he oso can be said one of the best too but he's not that classic defender unlike Paolo Maldini. hehehe...

Best Defender was Paolo Maldini as he was the first defender to win the player of the year award however now he is quite old 36 I believe so i'd say Cannavaro is the best defender at the moment.

well the best defender is none other then the cannon
cannavaro of italy , he is really good in defndeing as he has now signed a contract with his new club real madrid
he got the silver ball award in the world cup for his outrageous defending , he is really good and the team he plays for can be reliefed and concentrate only on attacking .
italy releid on him a lot as they lost nesta due to a injury

If I can only pick one - Sandro Nesta of AC Milan. this man has got solid defend skills, when he has to clear a challenge, he don't even have to commit a foul, clean clearing. He can also see the match and predict a challenge, Sandro made no mistakes.
The great Pele recently said: “To be sure of winning, the Brazilian team only needs one player: Alessandro Nesta.”

Italy/real madird player fabio cannavaro proved at the world cup he is the best in the world.
behind him is either carlos puyol and nesta.
in 4 th and 5th is rio ferdinand and john terry.they might break into the top three if they are more consistent[there prone to mistakes, espically ferdinand]
