1. Clean the disc
2. Use a laser cleaner
3. (LAST RESORT) Take the PS2 apart, clean the lens, oil the rods it sits on, etc, etc......

Many playstations have problems with their disc reading laser after a couple of years. The best solution is to have it fixed at a repair center. We took ours in to a game repair shop and it cost us about $50. Its worked for over a year now with no problem. You can also send it back to sony to repair, but it takes forever.
