Yes, it it a degenerative spinal disease that causes the body to produce extra calcium. The calcium then fuses the individual vertebrate together, causing extremely limitted mobility in the person, and a "humped" looking back.

It used to be that the only way to treat the disease (and it was only a temporary fix) was to have a surgeon break the back, and reset it. This would release all the calcium that had build up.

Now, they have a series of laser treatments that can be performed, that pose much less risk to the patient, and are considered much more effective.
