Mars isn't coming near this August there is an digital mail circulating in our on-line world affirming that the red planet Mars will be quite close on 27 August (2006). in accordance to at least one version “that is going to appear like the Earth has 2 moons”!!! once back it is a good lesson in no longer believing each and every thing on the information superhighway. the e-mail is a hoax describing in a particularly exaggerated fashion the activities of 2003. On 27 August 2003 Mars become in hardship-free words fifty 5.8 million kilometres away it is rather a lot the nearest accessible distance it must be from Earth. To the unaided eye it gave the impact of a shining red beacon at the same time as with the aid of a telescope a small red disc ought to correctly be considered with some darkish valuable residences seen. In previous due August this twelve months (2006) Mars is faint and purely seen after sundown low contained in the western sky.

Nothing's coming up! There's some confusion regarding such a thing happening on August 27th. However it has already happened on August 27th, 2003 when Mars came the closest ever to Earth (within 55.78 million kms). The cycle repeats after evry 284 years, and thus the next occurance will be in the year 2287. In any case, Mars will never appear as large as the Moon, because even at 55.78 million kms, it would appear as a tiny blot in the skies, although it would appear larger then usual. People who saw it in 2003 recall the reddish tinge of the planet.

Yes, each night look by the moon and you'll see something very bright. It's Mars. Each night, it's supposed to get brighter and bigger. It won't happen again for more than 200 years.

I already answered this question....NO....mars is too far away to have the appearance of the moon. If it ever got that close, we would be in big trouble due to tidal effects
