1. Turn on your phone's infrared.
2. Position your phone's infrared port directly facing the laptop's infrared port.
3. Your laptop should be able to detect your phone automatically. Else, enable your laptop's infrared.
4. Send files. Click on the icon on your desktop that says "click here to transfer files to another computer" (yes, any other device is still referred to as a computer)

Of course, this assumes that your infrared is smart enough to recognize/transfer files. Some older phones have infrared with limited capability of transferring only contacts or something.

You should have your phones software loaded on the PC to transfer files and backup your phone. You then have to enable your infrared on the phone first, line up the port on the phone to the laptop port about 3cm away. Your laptop should automatically detect the phones signal and away you go. You can download your phone software from the supplier site. Good luck

if your laptop has a infrared thing on the outside casing of the laptop (should be like black circle..) then point both ur mobile device to the laptop's IR port. Sending and recieving can be done in your pc. just right click and send through ir.. if i am correct. i would just use bluetooth, as it is way simpler and much faster.

goto control panel, wireless, click enable Ir port.
in you phone send the file via infrared.
remember that infrared light travels in a straight line so you'll have to align the phone Ir port to the computer's Ir port.

hope this helps
