I have a great ability to detach from external experiences -- so I can tolerate hours ( or even days) of silence

For days because I like silence. I try to limit myself to a few days because I do like to be out with my friends. I think if I had a choice than I'd say about a week before I'd want some noise.
You can think clearer when it is quiet and not so much stimulation to have to deal with.
I work in an environment where there is a lot of machinery operating so I can't wait to get home to the peace and quiet of my home.

For a long long time. I take however much silence I can get. It is a rare commodity these days.

It depends.... if I want to think or sleep, I tolerate it for some time. But if Im feeling bored or depressed, I want to speak with someone, so silence is not welcome.

I can't tolerate it. Unless I'm reading,watching a movie, or some
other situation where it is essential.
