Whether sitting or squatting, it makes little difference to the act of defecation. Either relaxes the gluteal maximus muscles (butt cheeks). The anus is controlled by a voluntary and involuntary sphyncter. The voluntary allows the faeces to enter the anal passage, the involuntary prevents it from leaking out your butt. Most toileting problems are caused by a " need to go" rather than THE need to go. People somehow feel it is a requirement to defecate at least once every 24 hour period and force the faeces out rather than wait for their body to tell them its time to go. This causes a variety of colonic problems, not least haemorrhoids (piles).
A sluggish colon can be caused by diet, dehydration or physical damage, such as age related loss of elasticity. But certainly not by sitting or squatting to perform the task.

We all have our difficulties in whatever we encounter or do in our daily lives. As the saying goes, "one man's meat is another man's poison". squatting on a toilet will put so much strain on some people's legs so much; I know some people who even feel dizzy squatting. To most people, it is more relaxing to sit and do their thing. I know I would not change sitting for squatting. It is a matter of convenience. Chooser what is convenient for u

What difference does it make whether it is true or not?
Nobody is going to stand on the toilet rim and then squat down.
You would probably slip off and break your neck. That would be worse than any bowel problem you could have.

colin problems are cause by eating items which are not fit for food. such as meat and cheese this items can not be fully digested therefore they clog up the colin. A person should relax on the toilet unless it is a public restroom then we squat to avoid contact with a dirty seat. lt has no effect on the colin. The food we eat effects the colin http://www.notmilk.com

I had the pleasure of having to use toilets in China where you have to squat over a "hole in the ground". But I tell you what, for me it was more stressful to stay relaxed and keep balance that way, than on a "Western Loo"...!

You must be male, because all women have had the experience of squating in the woods when camping, and it is not pleasent. You have to watch from peeing on your shoes, and your legs cramp. It would be far worse trying to poo standing up.

It is NOT true.
That idea came to be because many people do not like to sit on a public restroom toilet seat, sort-of rightly so because men quite often do not raise a toilet seat to urinate in a public rest room as they DO in their own home.
There is no more 'stress' sitting than there is standing.
That guy who said it's more stressful is easily fooled. send him to me, I'd like to sell him a swamp that I own.

In asia you squat over a pad on the floor. This is true in houses and public restrooms. Maybe they know something we don't.
