They say "time heals all wounds" because given enough time most people can figure out that their true interests should be focused on the present and the future and NOT on the past.

However, how much time it takes to realize that varies from person to person. Some people can bounce back in days while other people spend years nursing old wounds.

It's not actually time that does the healing. It's things like forgiveness. But to forgive, it takes time.

And healing doesn't mean it will ever be like before the wound was inflicted; the pain isn't removed - it is transformed. Some of it may never stop hurting, but most of it does stop hurting that much and instead makes you feel rich for having lived. I like the line in the song "Try to Remember" that says "Without a hurt a heart is hollow."

I do believe some pain always stay with us, but time does lessen it and keep it from hurting 24/7. I don't think it's temporary. I've been shattered by the breakup of a 3 year relationship, lost my father, and divorced someone I was married to for 17 years, and those things still hurt, but the pain is quite bearable, and the happiness I've found far outweighs the pain. It does take time, though, and you have to suffer thru it, but it DOES get better.

Not all wounds, as a matter of fact, there are some that only get worse with time. The best way to deal with any kind of emotional pain is to bring it out in the open right away and deal with it. Just avoiding the problem or ignoring it will eat at you until you can't take it anymore and lash out.

Time lessens the pain, but there will always be a memory of it. At first, the pain overwhelms you and you may not be able to function. As time goes by, you will find you are able to do simple things. The more time, the more you can do. After a long time, you can reflect on it and gain some knowledge from it, maybe change something about yourself. Remember, pain is the best teacher!

Everyone is different, but I think, from personal experience ,that time really does heal wounds, but does not forget the ugly head that rears itself now and again, The longer you are distanced from the wound, the less it bothers you.

the pain will always be there but time makes it better. It gets easier when you don't think about whatever it is so much and the people in your life change. My best advice get out and have some fun try to forget no matter what it is that is bothering you.

I do believe time can heal wounds. I do agree you may have fleeting thoughts about that person and what they did to you, but they don't last long and you even think of good times rather than bad. Ironic, but true,,,Give time time.

"Only if you allow it to" - i like IK's answer.

Vietnam would have legitimate reason to hate America for their 1.8 million deaths during the decade long war. Today Vietnam welcomes Americans for trade and tourism. They have not forgotten the war... but to hate is to die as a people. It took time to heal and the scars are diminishing fast.
