it has something to do with their navigation system . so i am told. IE they use the moon to find their way around, and they think the lite is the moon,,, but i cannot beleive they are that stupid,

Freezacrowd is probably right. Flies are indeed attracted to bright, round things. As to intelligence, they are actually little more than biological robots not much smarter than what can be produced at MIT, etc, today. They literally run a short list of programs that allow them to do what we see them doing. That's why they develop those flight patterns that drive us so crazy, flying right past us over and over again. They really aren't smart enough to be stupid.

Maybe because it's warmer under the lights? Flies don't like it when it's cold - they get a wee bit sluggish, which is why it's easier to swat flies when it's colder.
