Get a good quality 'Sports' sling and consult with a chiropractor on how best to use it - - - solid Velcro straps help, certain slings have ways to adjust strength etc. Sleeping could be a real ***** and you don't want to make it worse. Might want to get strapped in bed so you don't flop around while sleeping. Maybe Sleep in a chair? A good recliner might be best.

Hi im a orthopaedic plaster technician in my local hospital, yes cloth slings are very uncomfortable and can get very sore on the neck but you do really need to keep the sling on to keep your arm elevated high other wise your fingers will swell up alot then you will have more problems believe me.You can buy sports slings but they aint cheap, all depending how long you are in the plaster cast for,do u live in the uk ? In many hospitals in the A/E dept and the plaster room we do actually have another sling, its made off long thin foam and very comfortable, give them a ring or pop down and ask it shouldnt be a problem for them to make you a sling out off this. Good Luck.

If you are in a long arm cast you should wear the sling but it will be uncomfortable because it pulls on your neck. If you are in a short arm cast there is no need to wear the sling. Now that it is casted the swelling should subside but apply an ice pack to the cast with a towel in-between the ice and cast so as not to get the cast wet. This will help with the swelling.

Make sure that the sling is at correct position to give you most comfort, you may have to adjust it thru the day. When the cast is off, ice packs in the form of small bags of frozen peas will help reduce swelling and ease pain and can be re-used many times as long as the bag remains sealed. Just remember to mark them so no-one eats them! also best to wrap in a clean t-towel so you don't get ice burn on your skin. One last bit of advice, soft tissue injuries can take time to heal completely and everyone is different, so be patient and give your body a good chance to recover before you go on your bike again!! I have learned so much on here! I never knew about attachment parenting, or slings, or baby-led ANYTHING, or all of the good info about feeding solids. I love knowing that the stuff I went through and the things my daughter does is all completely normal as I see many many questions about the SAME things we experienced. I learned that there are some really cool mommas on here (Betwixt & Kat to name a few!) I've learned that all of the working moms miss their babies just as much as I do :) I am totally addicted to this site! I am having withdrawls this week as I have been very busy at work :( EDIT: Oh, and all of the mommas in Canada have WAY better maternity leave than us mommas in the U.S.! And all of the other advise that Uber & Mystic give out that I never even would have though of :)

Just make sure you use it at all times. You an buy different types that look better and are a little more comfortable and adjustable. It's handy to be able to adjust a sling until it's comfortable. Just be patient - it'll heal - but maybe not so good without support. It could have been worse - at least you can walk! It's worse when it's your leg!

If the doctor gave you a sling wear it, if you get tired of it lay down and put two pillows under your arm. Don't let it hang down as it will be very painful.
