Actually, I point the remote directly infront of the TV and then I press really really hard. Also, I remove the cover to the batteries, (no need to remove the batteries) and then I roll the batteries back and forth, then I replace the cover and like magic, your back to your channel surfing ways. Why do we press harder? Because it WORKS. Just like clicking away at your mouse when you get no response.

Because we are too lazy to get up and walk to the TV and change the channel that way or to change the batteries.

Why have we become so dependant on them? My TV doesn't have a remote so I sit right on top of it so I don't have to get up.

Its pyscological - it doesnt work.

The remote works on a simple circuit - the buttons have small metal dots underneath them. As soon as theirs a contact, it completes the circuit, and your on channel 3.

Therefore, how much pressure you apply wont affect the circuit, or power

Why do we talk louder English when we know the guy we're trying to communicate with doesn't speak English?

Frustration? Lack of ideas? How is this different from the spanking of chldren or the kicking of tires? Part of our (in-)humanity?

Rub the batteries in the palms of your hand for a minute or so and that will lengthen their life for a while longer.
