If the wood is fairly new, seal it first, I would suggest a good quality paint rather than the lime wash and for a very durable finish use a high quality epoxy resin...such as made by E-Bond in Fort Lauderdale. Old wood if it is very dry must be sealed to prevent the paint from being sucked deep in ...this will make the finished surface smoother.

Painting any floor is REALLY bad idea for many reasons.
Wood floor really bad? Do you own or rent? Cause repairing refinishing is expensive(time, money, or both). Carpeting and repair bad wood spots first.
But some lucky devils in older houses have wonderful floors that are only slightly marred by a carpeting job...
If so replace rotted/cracked pieces with same type/size, fill staple holes, sand, clean!!!, finish(see time and money).
Renting- two words- throw rugs!

i am assuming you want a white wash effect?if that is the case,you need to bring it down to raw wood,and the cheap but highly recommended way to go,is to get a can of oil based paint(color of choice)and cut it down with thinner,almost to cloudy state.apply the paint mixture,followed by ragging up the excess,let cure for 24 hours,then you can get a very nice clear varnish to topically apply.it will look brilliant when you are done.i have done this several times and have received nothing less than (beautiful,well done)hope that helps
