i dont want to install it if it wont run .the box says for win2000 and xp

Now worries - I have it working like that on one of my old laptops. No worries.

Usually, wireless adapters (B) can be installed on Windows 98 Second Edition and up. But with Wireless G adapters, they require a lot more resources, so it is recommended that they be installed on Windows 2000 and XP.

It may work, but you'll probably run into problems in the long run.
