Yes I agree with your comments and those of some of the others. Like you I will probably be spending Xmas alone - but unlike you, for reasons of health am unable to travel so will be cooking for myself. Should you wish to foreswear your trip to Spain, you are welcome to come and join me.

Christmas is a little over-rated, but so is every other public holiday, most of them are just for commercial businesses to generate even more profits.
The truth is that everyday is a celebration just the fact that we are breathing, alive and well is something to be very joyous about, and yes i do have kids and i really enjoy seeing their faces when they open their presents.
At the same time i don't want my kids to only be happy when they are receiving material things so everyday is a reason to be happy in my book!

I'm with you. What's the enjoyment in recieving crappy presents, and being cooped up with people you don'r really like, and having everything from shops to public transport shutting down for about 10 days? It's impossible to see people you like, because they are in a similar predicament, and then you have to pretent to be grateful for the misjudged presents that people think they have to give you. Maybe one day, with no huge present buying required, and then back to normal would be good. And New Year is a much better celebration anyway.

I hate Xmas, it should be called Winterval, nobody cares about the religious aspect, it is over-hyped, expensive, waste of time and effort, I buy presents for close family don't send or accept cards and would be quite happy to eat beans on toast on 25 Dec.

It doesn't mean that if they are not happy during christmas you will make yourself like them....enjoy the season....it's always good to celebrate christmas...start it with attending mass...be happy...life is too short...make the most of it while here on earth...God Bless!!!!
