You need a scan to find the cause and so ask your doctor for a referral to the orthopaedic specialist at you hospital. So many different causes - it could be anything. Try anti-inflammatory first like soluble paracetamol, ibuprofen, maybe diclophenic (probably prescription) and see if that helps. But it could be your spine collapsing - that happens in osteoporosis, arthritis, a problem with a disc (most likely) - so many different causes of back pain - you need to get it scanned. Lots of different treatments too. Everything from injecting in a sort of plastic stuff to strengthen the bone to powerful anti-inflammatory. See a specialist - and soon - there may be a waiting list. These things tend to get worse before they get better. So look after your back, no heavy lifting - and even things that will put a light strain on your back you should be careful of.

You should probably see a Dr. but if your like me you won't until it's so bad you end up in emergency. I do believe if it's possible you should give it a rest for two weeks. I do mean bed rest. I know that's hard to do but if there is an injury in your back, it will take that long to heal. Don't lift. Do squat exercises. Bend your knees and hold your back straight. This helps strengthen through the small of your back. Hold onto door frame or straddle door and hold the door knob. Start out slow. These were Dr. orders and it helped for several years. Now I'm going to a Massage Therapist after going to physical therapy for 7 1/2 months, to no avail. The message is helping at a slow rate. I hope this helps. I am a diabetic and can't have surgery. I have been diagnosed with degenerated disk disease. I'm not a Dr. but my husband tells me that I love to give advice even when no one wants to hear it. I just like to be helpful.

Get Your GP to refer you to a back specialist, you may need an MRI scan to find out whats going on, depending whats found specialist may offer as daycase patient Facet Joint Injections or Caudal Epidural ( both steriod injections into your back, 60% success rate but worth trying if appropriate ). Yahoo/google search spinal health. Pilates can help, your local hospital should have a physiotherapist specialising in back problems. FOR SURE go see someone if you notice any changes in your 'waterworks', perineal numbness or pain started when you were younger than age 15 or older than age 55.

Yoiu may need surgery (worst case scenario); but first, you need to get some x-rays or CT scans to see what's really wrong. Cortisone shots or epidurals may be the answer. You may just need to see a chiropractor to get adjusted. You may need a muscle relaxant or pain medication temporarily till you get back on your feet. Tlak to your doc about treatment plans.

I would say...either get someone to massage your back, or get an electronic one...Do you knw what causes it? Cuz if you stop that, or do it in a more confortable positon, or do it less, you shouldn't feel any pain. Or atleast not as much. Hope this helps!

Go see an Osteopath.
I suffered for years needlessly, then someone recommended an
Osteopath, and all the pain was taken away.
