I think it's really more about the values of the people who help *certain* politicians get into power. As it stands, especially in the U.S., you have to have a lot of support, financial and personal, to move up the rungs of the political ladder. So the people and organizations who provide that support have a disproportionate influence. It may be one person, one vote, but those with the money are deciding who we even get to vote for.
And those people usually want politicians who are influenced by money and NOT by altruism (looking out for others). They want corporate tax cuts and loose regulations re pollution, employment and trading practices, etc.
To take one specific example, how many people are tied to a job they hate because of the way insurance practices work? If the U.S. had socialised medicine, the corporations would lose that tool. Or if education systems were better, might people not be more willing and able to stand up to all of the lies and manipulations?
There are people who can about the welfare of all and give politics a go. But the way the system currently operates, they don't get very far and the media isn't much inclined to talk about them anyway.
So the challenge is what can we do about this. I think that the key is to remember that we do have power -- every single cent we spend is a vote. Use it wisely.

We the people do not control the political system anymore. If we did most of these politicians would have been out on their ears years ago. More and more often we see cookie cutter examples of the same thing over and over again. When was the last time we had a poor person in the White House?
Usually some rich guy wants to be in a position of power so he or she can manipulate the system and make a few million for themselves and their buddies.
This country was bought and sold many years ago, and since then we have all labored under the delusion and illusion that we really have a say. We do not, as example lets take the Presidential elections. The Democrates and the Republicans choose the candidates, not the people. And every time they choose someone who has been a politician since God was a puppy. Why? To keep up the status quo right. As long as they can get away with it they will, and because they can manipulate the media, they can manipulate us. "Hey this guy is good because he loves his cat." Incidentally it should be noted that the position of Senator, or House Representative was never meant to be a full time position, nor was it set up to put the same greedy, corporate lackeys into that position over and over again. Unfortunately the lawyers got into the mix and complicated, obfuscated, and otherwise manipulated things until most people now are so confused they don't know what's going on.
A wise person once said. "It is the duty of every American to protect his/her country from its Government." I believe the time to do that is right now. I am only one man but I can make a difference if I share my perspectives with others and they share theirs, we are only as weak as our minds let us, and they can have only as much power as we allow them to have. Eventually they will ask too much, as in asking our son, daughters, fathers and friends to fight for them under false pretenses. Hint, hint.

It is not the politicians. It is just that some people want power and money, while some others want welfare of the people. And some of them choose politics to achieve their desire whether it is power and money or welfare of the people. You see this difference in all walks of life. It is just that what politicians do (or fail to do)affect the lives of all of us.

I saw many answers against The Politician
But I tell you people my Dad is not like the other Politician
Dont always have the wrong thoughts for every Politician,
All of them are not alike and I blame the Public for the corrupted Politician, It is the Public who chose their leader and then It is them who says they are not good and I know many people who condemn the Politicians coming to politicians houses to get some money for themself and not for the general public
So, I want all those who see this letter to VOTE FOR THE RIGHT CANDIDATE NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS BECAUSE IT IS FOR YOUR WELFARE AND I TELL YOU----YOU WONT REGRET AND CONDEMN THEM>

do u think that only some politicians r like that?none of the politician cares about the people who elect them.they r bothered only in having more property for their future generation.they will remember the people n their welfare only during election.they will come to know the needs of the people only when they have to point out the mistakes of their opposition party.this is for the opposition party who want to scold the ruling party.in case of ruling party they will come to know our needs only when they have to tell that we'll do this that.the main aim of the politicians is that they have to lead a comfortable life blaming others and r not bothered about the poor fellows who elect them thinking that at least they will do something good for them.
