We are like dirt-poor. I don't work. We're students. We have two kids. We just can't seem to get ahead or barely take care of ourselves. I know we're not stupid spenders, so, what's the deal?

I'm a stay at home mother and my husband works full-time. I am not currently going to school. That is what he's doing so that he can finish it and get a career.
My two children are too young for me to work or go to school right now. been there, tried that, doesn't work.
We did NOT plan on having kids already. I was on birth control and I was told besides that that I have only a 30% chance of having kids, so believe me, we were SHOCKED to find out I was pregnant only 1 month after we were married.
So don't preach to me about that. You didn't read very well about our circumstances.
So, it's not our fault. Hubby never thought of school before he met me. (unfortunately). We waited 1 1/2 years to get married... so we've been trying and doing our best.

It's tough but some ways are to cut back on any luxuries that you have such as cable, Internet and going out to eat. Another way is to bargain shop for your groceries. Get the best deals that you can on food by comparing prices and how much food comes in each container. Sometimes something may look like a better deal but in reality the quantity is smaller than the other box. You just have to learn to be frugal. Good luck to you and I commend you on trying to do it without Welfare. I was so happy when we could finally afford to get off of welfare.

Some able-bodied people are too proud to collect welfare. They work 2 or 3 jobs, budget what money they have to pay their bills, are creative and sell what they don't need, etc. When I met my ex-husband he was dirt poor too. They lived in a one-room shack with no bathroom. His father was an alcoholic and his mother had a 6th. grade education and could barely read. But wow, could she cook! Besides picking berries at a farm she would make meals and sell them. They never collected welfare, eventough they were entitled to it. My ex-husband had ambition. He worked hard since he was young, and helped his Mom support the family after his father died. When his mother died we married and eventually started a business. The option of welfare is a cycle that's accepted as a means of survival brought down from generation to generation. If you have an insentive to work you can survive, and even become successful. There are too many opportunities out there to get an education, etc. So make a life for yourself, starting now. I wish you luck!

You're not going to like my answer.

Why do you have two kids already when you are still students with no jobs?

Poor life choices is the single biggest reason why people are poor in this country. The deal is, is that it's your fault!

One of you needs to get a job immediately to supplement your income. A part-time night job if nothing else, assuming you both attend school during the day.

Maybe one of you should quit school for a short time to support the family until the other one graduates and starts their career, then you can switch places.

You've dug yourself a hole, and now you've got to sacrifice to get out of it. Good luck.

They survive well by shopping wisely , looking for good deals , waiting for sales , stretching thier food dollars , and not trying to keep up with the jones .In todays world you have to be smart with money or you end up on welfare but that is coming to a screeching halt anyways cause the people are fed up with freeloaders .

They just do. When there's no other choice, we learn to live in whatever circumstances life throws at us. I grew up in a fair degree of poverty, but we should remember that there's a difference between absolute poverty (i.e. dying of starvation) and relative poverty (i.e. not having access to a computer)...
