the best option i will say is get the desktop assembeled as u want an home enterttainment PC so with assembling the PC it not only gets cheap but also some great equipments all together as in branded PC u cant get each and everystuff all together in a single system i will suggest some configuration
Inter based Computer
Processor - Inter Duo Core 2.XGHz or higher
Motherboard - Intel Original 865 or higher
RAM - 512 MB or higher
Hard Drive - minimum 80 GB 7200 RPM
a decent graphich card of nVidia
A decent and good looking cabinat to house all these which have good cooling solutions like front and side panel fans and extra rear fan and also some front panel USB ports and u will get a heavy duty computer as ur desktop
and a great powersupply to power your rig
Mechinical Keyboard
Optical Mouse
a game pad(optional)
a joystick(optional)
DVD-Writer
a CRT/LCD of minimum 15-17"
an internal modem
network adapter
TV-Tuner Card either internal or external
and Windows XP professional or Windows 2000 professional
Go to nehru place in delhi and u will get some great deals

search on dealnews.
I've heard it advised to simply go with the brand with the best tech support. It's probably good advice, especially for a first computer. One vote for Dell here. I like their 19 inch flatscreen monitors too.
Spend a little extra on system memory and the right video card if you want your games to run... this may be cheaper to install by yourself. (especially if you know a computer geek)
In fact, if you happen to know a computer geek, you should probably bribe him to build you a computer.
