I know a number of women who, after a Caesarian birth, have had problems with weight, hair falling out and so on. Is this a known medical phenomena? Could it be that, as the birth was not natural, certain hormones have not "switched off?" Is there any treatment for this?

I agree with carol_p, i had a c section, three days after the birth of my daughter i was up and about, you do have to take things easy until the wound heals. Theloss of hair happens anyway so dont worry about that, just remember to eat healthily up to the birth and dont over do your self.

after having kids everything is happening with your body it could just be the hormones, but as for a c- section the only reall after effects are that it hurts to walk at first and the scar will be real tender for a little while don't scratch, it will be numb and probaly forever around the area. other than the scar thats it. just becareful after not to lift heavy objects

No...
I do not think that they are related thou.
As for the hormones, oestrogen are always being secreted out to produce colostrom in the breasts and it would not stop until the colostrum is not being used. Thus oestrogen release will not be affected by the type of delivery.

I have had 2 sections and I had no after effects like you have mentioned. The only problems I had was the healing process(it takes longer) and with my first born it was that traumatic I did not bond with him properly. My second born was an elective section because of the problems I has with my first and that was fantastic,it was very calm and lovely I was also out of hospital within 48 hours of having her.
