Think its good in a way that sachin is playing the tri series as it will proove his fitness level in the hot sun and against some good opposition attack.The tri series is just warm up for the great player and not to forget the Champions trophy to be held in India.As they say "Form is temperorary class is permanent" sachin is always cut above the rest.But the burning question in his otherwise blemishless record is he has failed to rise to the occassion whenever India played in the finals.Except for the final in Sharjah against Australia where he scored back to back centuries he has not contributed much in other finals where it mattered most.
If your question means whether he is fit to be in the team then i think you must wait for the tri series to get over.His bat will do the talking and Chappel has some definite role for him during the tri series.

If you mean fit in to the team, certainly because it is a moral booster for the Indians and a demoralization factor for the oppositions. He might not be in form after returning to International Cricket after sometime, but the class of him is that he could adopt pretty soon - also he has a good record in Sri Lanka - used to the conditions.
If you mean fit as in Health wise to play - Yes again, He will play !
