Well its a hard question, the original star wars was a first of its kind, and for the time it was made, quite outstanding; Lord of the rings on the other hand, is in my opinion equally as good, with fantastic visual effects. I personally prefer Lord of the rings, but thats just down to personal preference, and thats the way really - its up to you which film trilogy is better

Original Star Wars Trilogy. Lord of the Rings is a close second though. However, the new Star Wars SUCKS!

Personally, Lords of the Rings trilogy. However, both are great movies and lots of special effects.
Again, in my opinion, the story telling in LOTR is better than Star Wars. George Lucas, in some scenes, make it a bit boring. Harrison Ford's acting was sometimes lame. The action sequence in the original star wars is a bit tamer than the new ones. However, my favorite Star Wars is Return of the Jedi.

The Lord Of The Rings
Not only are these visually stunning films but there are less continuity issues regarding the story and the qualty of the films having been madeat the same time.
Star Wars is great too, but I have real problems in that there are too many plot holes and discrepancies and having been made seperately by different production crews, they don't flow the same. Had Star Wars been written and filmed at the same time, it could be a much better trilogy.

The lord of the rings is a big hit today but 10 yrs down the line the heat of LOTR might just roast the ring while the star wars saga will still continue and will still be valued by many.
My justification is that Star Wars has a synonymous relation with the modern day politics. LOTR does not have any such implementation.

I think the Lord of the Rings because the original star wars trilogy would be so much better if it was done again.

Audiance wise i will say Lord of the Rings because that trilogy has brought in more money and racked up more awards than the star wars films. However Inflation prices over the years indicate that The Origanal Star Wars was very rich in their box offfice in take.
Personally i love Star Wars.

The original Star Wars trilogy Episodes IV,V,VI before they were editted with effects.
Bluescreen technology advancements make for nice additions but Lucas was far more ahead in time with characters and props without it.......e.g.......the lightsaber, Yoda as a puppet(courtesy of Frank Oz) or computer generated (later episodes in real time but earlier in the storyline).
Don't get me wrong that the Lord of the Rings trilogy was bad. I have been a Star Wars fan since the original movie came out on the big screen .......A Long Time Ago.......in smaller theaters without Imax and cheaper popcorn....lol

This is a hard question to answer as I loved all of the Star Wars movies, but I also loved all of the Lord of the Rings (Orlando Bloom is hot)
