Technically, a WMD is any weapon that can kill more than two people at the same time--grenades, bombs, poisoned water, etc. However as used today it means something that can kill multitudes of people at once--nuclear bombs, biological agents, chemical weapons. There are also other sources of mass destruction that do not involve weapons--like hurricanes, volcanoes, famine, drought, global warming.

WMD stands for Weapons of mass destruction, are weapons designed to kill large numbers of people, usually civilians but also potentially military personnel. They are generally considered to be of limited military usefulness because their destructiveness is likely to trigger an extreme response. They are also known as weapons of indiscriminate destruction, weapons of mass disruption and weapons of catastrophic effect.

Weapons of Mass Destruction. Specifically, it refers to the classic triad of unconventional weapons, the NBC(Nuclear, biological, chemical). Basically, weapons that don't use regular explosives to kill. Missiles are not included, or bombs. These just deliver the love. They are referred that way becasue they can kill so much more people than any regular weapon can, including big *** bombs.
