This has often bothered me because there is a thin line to matematics and in conjunction with science and physics.

Mathematics is the study of the measurement, properties, and relationships of quantities and sets, using numbers and symbols.

It is a sense a language which helps explain and analyse things observed it other sciences.

Physics is a set of rules on what sohuld happen to certain things, maths proves these rules are correct.

I find it useful to think of mathematics as "the science of numbers". That view helps me relate mathematics with physics.

Until now, it has often taken many years for mathematical concepts to be found applications in physics and other areas, so in that sense I would agree with keerthan.

Mathematics is the science of solving problems by numerical modelling. All science relates to mathematics and mathematics is the father of all science.

in higher studies you will realise that mathematics is mainly a tool which allows us to solve physics up to an extent but the very high level math is mainly a hobby

the greek word for lesson is: mathima
the greek word for sight is: theama

together you get: mathima theama which would roughly translate into the "seeing lesson" or if you will "learn by seeing"
