Go to yahoo finance and punch in the symbol for the stock that you're interested in. Look on the left side of the screen and punch Profile. A summary of the company will then be displayed. Under the summary you will see key statistics. On the key statistics screen look on the right hand side for the statistic called shares outstanding. That will tell you the total number of shares that have been issued and are available in the market. This information is usually at least 30 days old but it doesn't change much. If you want to know the number of shares of the stock are available on the buy side and sell side you would use look on the first page in yahoo finance that came up when you put the symbol in there and see the size of the bid and the size of the ask. That will tell you the number of shares available at that particular bid and ask. I hope this help. Good luck.

Access one of the dozens of on-line investment companies.

Contact the company you are interested in directly and start with their financial department.

Review their most Annual Report and review the number of their shares held outside of the company and the number of shares being retained as company treasury stock.
