Well, they are made in a process similar to the way that glass bottles are made by hand by blowing them up with air. The process is called Extrusion Blow Molding. With EBM you have an extrusion die with a hollow tube in the center. Molten plastic is extruded around the tube and then this is enclosed by a mold. Air is blown into the tube to inflate the plastic to the size and shape of the mold. This is like blowing up a ballon inside the mold. The mold holds the plastic long enough for it to cool. Then the mold opens and you have the plastic bottle.

By Vacuum molds.

Vacuum forming is the process that molds sheet plastic into a desired shape through vacuum suction of a warmed plastic sheet onto a mold, thus the term vacuum forming.
Vacuum forming can be used for many thicknesses of plastic sheet and can produce high strength vacuum molded parts. Fairly complex geometries can be produced with vacuum molding and vacuum forming.

Familiar products manufactured by vacuum forming include: baths and trays. The plastics that are used in vacuum forming include: acrylic, low density polyethylene (LDPE), high density polyethylene (HDPE), polypropylene (PP) and crystalline polyester (CPET).
